# project: red thorn

project: red thorn is a spiritual successor to Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear: a browser-based tactical multiplayer game built around deliberate movement, teamwork, and one life per round. It is an independent project, with no implied official Rainbow Six affiliation.

## Play

Open the [room browser](https://projectredthorn.com/play/) in a desktop browser with WebGL 2 and JavaScript. Hubs host multiple rooms, each running its own game. Join one, or create a new room to become its admin. Choose a map, rules and loadout, then mark ready. The admin starts the round.

Use Hubs to save individual hubs or subscribe to hub lists. The same flow works for public hosting and LAN play. Invite friends using the room code button: it copies a link to that exact room and hub. Reloading resumes your operator. Use a separate browser profile for a second player on the same computer.

## Multiplayer and practice

Rooms support up to 16 operators, including bots. The admin can add, remove, and configure AI operators and their teams and difficulty. Team Survival, Survival, Scatter Teams, Stronghold, Double Stronghold, and Disarm Bomb are available game modes. Round time, friendly fire, and third-person view are room settings.

Choose a primary weapon, sidearm, ammunition, armor, and two equipment kits before playing. Equipment includes grenades, extra magazines, and sensors. No respawns: eliminated operators spectate until the next round.

## Controls and audio

Use WASD to move and the mouse to look. Left mouse fires; right mouse zooms. Shift runs, V moves quietly, C crouches, Q/E lean, R reloads, and F interacts. G uses equipment; hold and release to throw a grenade. Escape opens settings. Controls & settings lets players customize bindings, sensitivity, inverted mouse look, player name, and game audio. Preferences save in the browser.

## Maps

Use the [map editor](https://projectredthorn.com/editor.html) to build, open, save and test portable `.thorn-map.json` files. Hubs supply complete map packages when you join. Built-in authored environments include Killhouse Switchyard and Outpost.
